The LawEmployment LawYoung People are covered by the same employment laws as any other workers. For example, you cannot be discriminated against in the workplace because of your gender or race. However, young employees are also protected by specific laws which ensure that they receive additional protection. They cannot, for example, do certain jobs or tasks which might be unsuitable for a young person or they cannot work over 40 hours per week. If you feel that an employer is asking you to do something that is not safe or appears unreasonable, or if you are not being paid the minimum wage, then you can contact either your Connexions PA or a specialist agency such as the Greater Manchester Pay and Employment Right Advice Service or Citizens Advice Bureau |
