Rights
Knowing your rights affects everyone - whether it is in education, work, training or if you’re unemployed and looking for work/training.
You need to know your rights and responsibilities
- so that others don’t infringe upon them – for example, an employer making you work longer hours than you are legally allowed to.
- To prevent you being discriminating against under equal opportunities legislation e.g. because you’re a girl wanting to work in a ‘traditionally’ male occupation such as construction.
- so that you don’t overstep any boundaries and stay within the law e.g. how long you’re entitled to work, at what age you can work etc.
The basic issues are covered in the links above, but for more advice and guidance please contact your local Connexions Centre or check out the Your Rights Website
