Making Choices

Before taking the next step, you need to ask yourself a few questions in order to make sure you make the right decision:

  • What kind of work would I enjoy?
  • What would I find difficult or boring?
  • What am I good at?
  • What qualifications do I need?
  • Would I be willing to undertake further study/training if required?
  • Do I have any health problems which may affect the job I choose?
  • Are there any issues (such as housing, drugs etc.) which might affect my future?

Who Can Help Me?

Connexions Personal Adviser

You will be able to discuss your future plans and ideas with a Personal Adviser. They can provide up to date information about employment, training and further education and will be able to explain the different routes clearly, providing you with up to date advice and guidance in order to help you make the right decision. Even if you are undecided about the future, an interview with your Personal Adviser will help start you thinking about what you’re good at and might be interested in.

There may be other things that could affect your future – for example; you might have concerns about drugs, your health, housing, relationships, money etc. Whatever the issue, we will do our best to help you – you can talk in confidence with your Personal Adviser.

You can arrange to speak to your Personal Adviser at any time, either at school (see your Careers Teacher to make an appointment) or after you have left (contact your local Connexions Centre). Personal Advisers are also available in colleges and sixth forms and can be contacted through the Student Services or Advice and Guidance section at the college/sixth form.
